Can You Really Exercise In Your Chair

Have you ever wondered how one participates in exercises when they have difficulty walking or even being truly mobile? One type of exercise that is incredible for many seniors is chair exercises.

I call my mother if not everyday, then, every other day to see how she and dad are doing. Dad who enjoys walking, and to this day, I believe he walks faster and longer (stamina wise) than me. Even my daughter says the same thing, doesn’t mind walking for long periods of time. However, my mother called me during the summer last year to explain that my daughter took a nap during exercise class. Well, first off, she explained that she would exercise in the chair with the other residents, but I had no clue how or what they did. So, my daughter decided to participate in their chair yoga class with my mother. She got so relax that she did take a nap. According to her, their workout was very hard, and was tiring after so many minutes.

Why do chair exercises?

Whether young or old, chair exercises can be beneficial to your body for stress, stretching and for working all limbs.

Is there anything special that a person needs to have when performing chair exercises?

It would depend on what you are trying to accomplish with chair exercises. You may be a part of a class where as given in the story above, chair yoga. However, you can have chair stretches, and chair cardio. Some chair exercises involve weights, but I would definitely ask that you attend the class and note what may be best for you as a beginner.

Is there any special site that you would recommend that one use for chair exercises?

There are many YouTube videos that give wonderful examples of chair exercises. You can choose which one you like best. You will enjoy the exercises, because it gets you to a state of relaxation and helps you stretch. Once you do these exercises a few times, you will be able to do them at your desk even at work.
