Day 5: Taking an Initiative, Read

What gives you the initiative to read?  Right now,  you are reading this blog post, and this is a good thing.  Position yourself now to take on the next initiative to enhance yourself intellectually.

Though there are many bookstores around, there are still many people who are not reading, because of excuses such as, “I cannot find a book to read”; or “The book is boring.”  Don’t get me wrong, many will read posts on Facebook, Twitter, Google +, articles and other sort snippets of news or gossip, but the true action of reading for pleasure or self-enhancement is not of their highest priority.  So, today’s healthy lifestyle word is:

1. The power or ability to begin or to follow through energetically with a plan or task; enterprise and determination.

Whether it be books, sports, or getting on the next healthy weight loss program.  The first few words of the definition for initiative speaks volumes, “The power or ability to begin”.  Taking a book for the meaning of self-enhancement or reading for pleasure, it is about the ability…power that is within. It is one’s initiative to begin something, but it is the follow through that allows the initiative to be complete, finite, or resolved.

Initiative by Greg S. Reid is the book the next two months.  This book was introduced to me by Lane Ethridge at a book conference.  He is one of the contributing authors and his message prior to introducing the book was to express that it is our mindset that gets us to where we want to go.  It is the initial steps that we take to see a difference in our live; and it is our power to follow through with determination to make a difference.  It is an initiative to be YOU!

Learning the Healthy Lifestyle vocabulary will help you take the initiative to enhance the wholeness of yourself. Purchase the book and read along with me.  Hopefully we can have a meaningful discussion about taking an initiative to be our authentic self.

  1. Hi!
I think it’s very sad that so many people don’t take the time to snuggle down with a good book and ‘read’ it… from front to back cover. Reading is such a powerful tool… a place we can go for adventure, excitement and romance to name a few.
We don’t own a t.v. or a radio and my children read.. they play outside and get dirty and live!
    thanks for sharing,
    saw you at UBC,

  2. I have to admit, I don’t read as much as I should. I have been reading more especially books relating to business. Thanks for sharing. Anita
