The Daniel Fast is a biblical-based diet, twenty-one days, that is often used at the begin of the Roman Calendar year by many Christians.  This fast/diet is to cleanse one’s mind, body and soul and to be one with God’s word with the daily scripture, planned meals, and support from either your church or community with lessons that support gaining a clear vision of your purpose.

In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.- Daniel 10:  2, 3 (KJV)

We are living in God’s Grace.

God has granted us Grace, and we are to learn and live by it through His word.  His son died on the cross so that we can make the choices that we do in striving to have His word live through us. With the knowledge that we are now living in God’s grace, we can still refer to the the old testament, The Pentateuch (commonly known as the Book of Law) specifically.  For example, in Leviticus 11, it details when God spoke to Moses and Aaaron about what foods were clean and unclean.

And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: -Leviticus 11: 7-10 (KJV)

What can be learned about eating a plant-based diet from the Daniel Fast and Leviticus?  Is is not necessarily a practice that Christians must have; however, these sources, especially the Bible, are excellent guides that can be used to help in what to eat and what to do if there is a want to have a vegan lifestyle.

Assignment:  What biblically based diet have you tried? and why?  If you have tried the Daniel Fast, please share this with our readers.

  1. Well – great post as I never thought about diet plans from the Bible in this aspect! – and I suppose I am regularly on Daniel’s diet – since bread and wine are off my list – Big hugs 🙂
