About two weeks ago, I felt that the embarrassment of having a father with dementia needed to leave me because it is not about me, but about helping others realize that they are not alone. This was my inspiration to stop the self-pity party and start walking with a purpose. About for years ago, I learned about my father having small signs of memory loss. It wasn’t until this year…yes, even after the doctor’s visits, visiting with him and even talking with him…that I realized that this condition was really in my family. As a daughter of a person with dementia, it is very difficult to really take it all in, but in simpler terms “get over the embarrassment” and help others realize how deeply it affects the entire family.
I am in my second week of walking with a purpose, and I would like for you to join me in this journey. This will definitely be a journey, because I am not a skinny-mini, but this cause means more to me than I thought just four years ago.
